In the Mountain West, Urban Alchemy’s first city partner was Santa Fe, New Mexico, capital of the Land of Enchantment. The city’s leaders turned to us to help address one of their most persistent challenges: a local shelter that had long been a focal point for the unhoused community but also a deep concern for neighbors and local businesses due to visible drug use, overdoses, and instability.
Our first task was to reimagine the space, physically and emotionally. We cleaned and reformed the facility, renaming it Agape House after the Greek word for selfless, unconditional love, reflecting Urban Alchemy’s commitment to lead with empathy and compassion.
Agape House became the anchor for a broader transformation. We launched a LOVE team to reach out to members of the community who need help and built an Oasis to provide a place of safety and peace for anyone who needs a place to go — housed or unhoused. For many, these services have created the sense of belonging and support that are the starting points on a journey to permanent housing.
In Santa Fe and beyond, our work starts with love and builds from there.
