Practitioner Story

Damien Rouse

Damien Rouse’s decision to join Urban Alchemy was inspired by his family. One of Damien’s longstanding goals is to break the cycle of crime, incarceration, and homelessness for his son. He also wanted to dedicate himself to giving back to the community after one of his younger brothers was killed on the streets – and both of his older brothers’ struggles with drugs and homelessness. His father, also a returning citizen, pointed him toward UA.

Damien was sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison when he was only 14. After being released, he struggled to find a career, jumping from dead-end job to dead-end job. UA changed all that, recognizing his drive, commitment, and compassion.

At UA, Damien swiftly moved through the ranks, working his way up to site director in Portland. Damien's experience allows him to deeply understand, engage and support guests and his fellow Practitioners who are struggling, offering empathy without judgment while also avoiding enabling bad behaviors. Truly listening has helped him to build trust and respect.
