Safe Communities
Equipped with training, experience, and naloxone, our Practitioners de-escalate potentially dangerous situations and maintain community safety.
Urban Alchemy’s Safe Communities initiative addresses public safety concerns through relationship-building. We place staff in struggling neighborhoods and respond to 911 calls related to homelessness. Practitioners, trained in “street psychology,” intervene in non-emergency situations related to homelessness, mental health, and addiction. They engage communities positively, activate public spaces, and connect residents to local resources. Practitioners serve as the community’s helping hands and eyes on the street, reducing isolation and loneliness. These efforts create safe and peaceful communities without resorting to over-policing, inadequately trained security guards, or hostile architecture.
