Tiny home villages are pathways to permanent housing.
Big change requires big investment. Urban Alchemy is honored to be part of one of the largest shelter expansions in the history of Multnomah County. Providing shelter, services and support for the unhoused residents and supporting the improvement of the communities surrounding the Tiny Home Village sites has been a tremendous honor for Urban Alchemy.
Urban Alchemy operates several Safe Rest Villages in Portland, Oregon. The city’s ultimate goal is to get everyone off the streets and into safer temporary shelters, where outreach workers can connect them with the resources they need to move into permanent housing.
Each Safe Rest Village includes climate-controlled tiny homes, provides clean hygiene facilities, and offers healthy meals. One of our sites also has a limited number of tent platforms for those who are more comfortable living in their own tents before moving into a tiny home, and another has parking spots for RVs. In 2024, we expanded our Wellness Village concept to the Safe Rest Villages, increasing our focus on supporting guests’ physical and mental health, as well as empowerment and skill training. To complement this effort, we also began doing outreach to unhoused neighbors in the areas around our sites, as well as other parts of the city.
