Kristofer is a 19-year-old young man. Everybody who knows him calls him “Krispy” like Krispy Kreme doughnuts. From the first moment he stepped foot in our safe rest village, he captivated the staff and other guests with his charismatic personality and good sense of humor. Prior to moving into this Urban Alchemy site, Krispy was living on the streets for a few years, losing hope for a brighter future. He was sleeping in an encampment near a bridge, where he learned how to stay safe on the streets of Portland, Oregon. It was here that he met our outreach team, who sent him and his adorable dog to one of our safe rest villages. Since moving in, he has been able to obtain his ID and Social Security cards. This led to him applying for and receiving rental assistance, which he used to move into his own apartment. Krispy tells us that this experience opened his mind to new possibilities. He now wants to find a job so he can maintain his rent down the line. Krispy told us that although he might not show it all the time, he is truly grateful to Urban Alchemy.
