Careers
Urban Alchemy actively recruits persons with justice-involved backgrounds, specifically those returning home from life and long-term sentences, with a workforce that is approximately 96% returning citizens.
We prioritize paying above minimum wage for all of our positions, because we know firsthand the lack of affordable housing in many major metropolitan areas. We also help our team members, whom we call Practitioners, build a sense of community with coworkers and in the neighborhoods we serve.
This work isn’t for everyone. Our Practitioners serve as a shining beacon of light to transform lives and neighborhoods in chaos. They must have empathy and emotional intelligence – traits we believe returning citizens develop while serving time. They must also have the grit to work in challenging situations supporting individuals who are going through trauma and often mental health and/or addiction crises. If you have overcome trauma, mental health issues, or addiction and want to help others struggling with those challenges, our organization may be right for you.
All positions in operations or the field are 100% in-person, because our workers serve our guests and perform outreach to unhoused neighbors. Our administrative positions can be 100% in-office or hybrid and are based in either our San Francisco or Los Angeles offices, as indicated in the job description.
