As a consultant for Urban Alchemy in 2022, Ross Mirkarimi advised the organization on strengthening and expanding its community-led public safety program contracts. In 2023, Ross became the director for UA’s San Francisco HEART (Homeless Engagement Assisted Response Team). Mirkarimi is responsible for a citywide van-deployed team of 25 field, communications, and care coordinator staff. Prior to his consulting work, Mirkarimi was elected the 35th sheriff for the City and County of San Francisco. He managed over 1,000 deputy and civilian staff with an annual budget of $193 million. His administration focused on strengthening public safety by lowering recidivism. Mirkarimi was the first sheriff in the nation to file litigation stopping the inequities of cash-bail and the price gouging of phones and commissary in prisons and jails. Before becoming sheriff, he was twice elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (2005-2012).
